Stoop Stories
™ is a documentary storytelling project designed to connect, support, and celebrate our NYC neighbors, especially those hardest hit by the pandemic and systemic inequities. We honor generations of New Yorkers, past and present, who rejoice and take refuge in stoop culture.

The iconic stoops of New York City have always been the place to meet up, catch up, and build community. During lockdown, our stoops became our sanity and our solidarity. We gathered there to bang pots for essential workers, to safely socialize, dine al fresco, and work remotely. Some days, our stoops were our only connection to the outside world. That’s when and why I ventured out for a solo portrait series, which has evolved into a collective of photographers and storytellers with a community of nearly 11K followers.

Since April 2020, we have produced hundreds of authentic stories straight from the stoops of NYC and have been spotlighted by The New York Times, Time Out New York, The Washington Post, NY1PIX11 News, and News12 Brooklyn. Our work has been exhibited at the International Center for Photography, Photoville, Arts Gowanus ArtWalk,Papergirl BK, and Art on the Ave NYC. We designed a large solo show at theBrooklyn Children’s Museum, with a companion exhibit at Photoville where we held a storymaking program with kids. We previously partnered with Time Out New York, ciaooo mag, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of NY (BBBSNY). Our BBBSNY content series led to one of the highest numbers of male mentors in the history of BBBSNY. Recruitment of Littles (mentees) increased by 50%.

Stoop Stories™ is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Stoop Stories must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
